On Wednesday 16th May 2018, Heart of the City held a workshop for our Advanced members at Accenture on ‘How to develop / review your CSR strategy’.
This popular event saw talks from Linda Wickstrom (CSR Specialist, Accenture) who gave a review of Accenture’s CSR strategy in action, followed by a Strategies 101 session on developing and reviewing your responsible business strategy including a practical group exercise conducted by Jo Goddard (Sustainability Director and Founder of Green & Good Consulting).
Linda’s talk covered corporate citizenship at Accenture highlighting how their strategy is providing skills to get a job and build a business and illustrating the evolution of Accenture’s community investment strategy, articulating the case for continued evolution to transform business and bring new innovations, particularly in the digital age.
Jo’s practical talk discussed the essentials of developing a CSR strategy and why businesses should have a responsible business strategy. In her workshop she explored stakeholder engagement and goal setting using the example of frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals. She discussed how businesses should review their strategy over time and conducted a practical exercise for members to review stakeholder issues.
Three Top Tips to consider when developing your strategy:
– Who are your main stakeholders: Investors, media, NGOs, employees, community, customers, suppliers.
– What are their main concerns: E.g. Climate change, people development, fair pay, packaging, wellbeing.
– What is your internal focus: Is there a particular charity you support? What are the unique skills your company has?
