On 26 February, we held a masterclass for our year two members to assist them with applying for the prestigious Lord Mayor’s Dragon Awards and give them the best chance of winning.
We heard from Rachel Engel about what being a winner meant to the Macquarie Group Foundation. She talked passionately about how it’s not just the promotion and recognition from your peers you receive on the back of winning an award but also that going through the application process can help you focus on the work you’re doing and how you communicate it.
Becky Jacobi from the Dragon Awards team talked about the application process and offered an insight into what the judges are looking for, namely the focus on communicating impact. She encouraged all members to consider applying for the Heart of the City Dragon Award which is specifically targeted at businesses who have made a strategic step change in their responsible business approach in the last three years and is free to apply for.
And last but definitely not least, we heard from Heart of the City members James Stones and Catherine Jewell from Beck Greener, who won the Heart of the City award last year. They shared their experience of winning a Dragon Award as an SME. They collected valuable impact data to support their application and spoke about the snowball effect it the award had on their company in terms of raising their profile and being invited to speak at events and apply for other awards.
Applications for the 2019 programme are open until 16 April and anyone who needs support with their application can contact the Dragon Awards team for a 1-2-1 session.
