Welcome to Heart of the City’s new Director, Andy Melia

The Heart of the City team is pleased to welcome Andy Melia back as our new Director. Andy previously worked as Interim Chief Executive for Heart of the City back in 2020, where he successfully led the development of our climate action work. Bringing over 15 years’ leadership experience in the charity sector working with businesses on their social and environmental impact, he has a strong vision to take the charity forward into an exciting new chapter.

Andy’s dedication is evident in his past achievements, notably in developing the Business in the Community’s strategy for thriving places and championing LGBTQ+ inclusion globally. He looks forward to enhancing Heart of the City’s role as a translator between large and small businesses; particularly working with diverse communities to enable more SMEs to access supply chains. He has worked with businesses of all sizes across London, the UK and globally, and understands the needs and challenges of business leaders in understanding their role and purpose in society. Alongside this, he has extensive experience across the charity sector, serving as the inaugural chair of Brighter Together, an intergenerational charity, and a trustee and senior volunteer manager in the Scout Association in South London.

“I am excited to be returning to Heart of the City; I have been a fan of the organisation for many years, and its mission is very close to my heart” comments Andy.

“Small businesses power local economies and communities and helping them to understand their purpose in society and their role in responding to climate change will be critical in securing prosperity and enabling everyone to access opportunities. Heart of the City has so much potential to increase its impact through innovative partnerships, building on the amazing work already underway with the City of London Corporation and Greater London Authority, and our wealth of corporate supporters. Leading the organisation into its 25th anniversary celebrations next year provides the ideal opportunity to look ahead and capitalise on the incredible foundations laid by Maggie and the team.”
