Every year, the City of London Corporation runs the Sustainable City Awards in collaboration with a number of other partners. These awards are designed to highlight good practice in corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.
The City Bridge Trust assists one of the Livery Companies, the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers, with the award category entitled “Greening the Third Sector”. The Greening the Third Sector category recognises and rewards the efforts of voluntary groups and charities across London, who are making real improvements to their ecological footprints by reducing waste, using energy and water more efficiently and cutting down on transport and resource use. Applications are invited from voluntary and community organisations that do not have the environment as their main focus but which nevertheless have made significant improvements in their environmental performance.
This category is open to non-environmental organisations in London only.
The application documentation is all online and can be found at www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/sca You can get the application form by emailing this address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Awards receive a good deal of publicity and are presented at Mansion House, the home of the Lord Mayor in the City. Although there is no financial prize, short-listed applicants are invited to this prestigious event which will be held in March 2014. In the past, voluntary organisations have commented on the value of meeting senior people from the corporate sector at this event.
