This week’s Survive and Thrive session was timely, following the government’s new rules on socialising and working. Heart of the City members joined us to talk about resilience during the pandemic, focusing on looking after your mental health and understanding your mindset. It was great to see so many Heart of the City members join the discussion, sharing their thoughts about resilience and different coping mechanisms.
We were pleased to be joined by Andy Gibson, founder of Mindapples, a mental health organisation helping people take better care of their minds and improve their mental health and wellbeing. Andy held an interactive session looking at what it means to be resilient during uncertain times. He spoke about techniques to get through difficult times and we looked at growth and the mindset theory.
We’ve shared our key takeaways from the session:
- You can learn to be more resilient: you can change your mindset and develop habits to help you cope with and respond to adversity.
- Everybody has different coping strategies, so it’s important to find a range of activities that work for you.
- Developing a growth mindset will build your capacity to respond to difficult situations – try to be flexible in your thinking to learn new skills.
