Every month we like to share a recommendation from one of our ambassadors: something that inspires them in their responsible business work. This month we spoke to James Ross, CSR Executive at Buzzacott.
“My background in volunteering and charities taught me a lot about the role of corporate organisations in the wider community, and the importance of skills-based volunteering and practical support that they can offer. I took the initial plunge into the world of CSR by taking a part-time role at Buzzacott LLP, specialising in the firm’s community programme; while also studying for a master’s in Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability at Birkbeck College, University of London. Since completing my course in September 2019, I have taken a full-time role at Buzzacott with an expanded remit that also covers the firm’s sustainability, diversity and inclusion, social mobility and wellbeing programmes.
I would recommend taking an active involvement in the many excellent best practice meetings and seminars that are hosted on a regular basis around the City. Those local to your community give you valuable insight and keep you up-to-date on the various challenges and changes that are continually taking place in CSR and governance.
Being based in the City of London means that I’m lucky to have access to a wide range of such organisations. Some I’m a particular fan of are London Funders who help to drive our philanthropic and charitable focus; the Clean City Award Scheme’s best practice meetings around green innovation and plastic reduction; Bee Midtown who have hosted panel discussions around diversity, inclusion and sustainability; Cheapside Business Alliance’s local community focus that brings shared vision to our local community; ICRS seminars and briefings that keep us all up to date with the bigger picture; and let’s not forget Heart of the City and the great work they do!
The opportunity to share knowledge and learn from my colleagues across a wide range of business sectors – and to meet likeminded professionals who share a vision and focus for a cleaner, green and more inclusive society – is nothing short of inspiring. These shared experiences truly bring focus to relevant and poignant issues to businesses like Buzzacott.”
