Rizwana Khanom joined Heart of the City on 17th September as our Responsible Business Intern. We spoke to Rizwana to find out what she’s looking forward to doing during her time with us, and to see how her first couple of weeks with us have been.
Rizwana’s internship with us is part of the East London Business Alliance (ELBA) Eagles Graduate Scheme. She recently graduated from Queen Mary University of London, where she studied Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
Welcome to Heart of the City, Rizwana! What drew you to the organisation?
Heart of the City was one of the placements offered by the ELBA Eagles graduate scheme. I heard great things about Heart of the City during the first 3 weeks of ELBA training including an Eagle visit to Guildhall before my placement began. My past experiences involved volunteering at my local Idea Store and being an active member of Muslim Aid. I enjoyed being involved in these organisations which have encouraged me to do more about responsible business!
You’ve been with us for 3 weeks now – what have you been getting involved in?
One of my responsibilities involve updating the rest of the departments at the City of London Corporation about Heart of the City and what we have been up to within the week. I attended my first ‘Thinking BIG’ workshop last week where I helped manage the registration desk, take photographs and network. I have also visited Mansion House and went along to member meetings.
What are you looking forward to learning about while you’re working with us?
More events! I also would like to learn more about Heart of the City and responsible business in different types of organisations. These past 3 weeks have been amazing, and I look forward to supporting the team during the busy recruitment period for 2019 Foundation Programme.
