Heart of the City’s Newcomers Programme has helped me in my role at FTI Consulting to promote not only the positive reputational impact of CSR but also the business development benefit to management – that by participating in activities such as volunteering, they can break down barriers between teams, and build a truly collaborative spirit across the business. The Newcomers Programme is very professionally structured. Sometimes, working in a CSR role in an organisation can be quite isolated – I am the only one doing this role in the whole of Europe. It was really beneficial through the Newcomers Programme to connect with others who were facing the same issues in their businesses which gave me energy to succeed. My mentor relationship was also really important and inspirational – I could have an honest chat about a challenge I was facing. We’d talk through what’s worked elsewhere, and ideas to help me find a solution that worked for my company
Being a member of Heart of the City has enabled us to move our CSR programme to the next level and achieve our current total of 66 apprentices and 97 improvers into work. The expertise from Heart of the City and sharing of best practice with like-minded companies has been invaluable and with the continued support and relationships we are confident of the future success and growth of the K&M Training School
My Heart of the City mentoring sessions have been invaluable for the guidance and practical advice offered. By sharing experience and expertise, my mentor has taken away the error portion of the trial and error of building a formal strategy for a long term, sustainable CSR programme to positively impact our business and our community.
The online tools have played a huge role in helping shape our CSR programme. The help and support I’ve had from working with Heart of the City has been invaluable. The central project team have been very proactive in making introductions to organisations that could potentially help us ” and the people we have met have been incredibly supportive and helpful. We wouldn’t have been able to progress as quickly as we have in our thinking without those introductions.
It is only with the support of Heart of the City that we were able to access the expert knowledge, insight and resources we needed in order to create and implement an effective CSR and volunteering programme. As a result, we have had an incredibly high level of buy-in from our team, real, tangible results from our community partners and have also just been nominated for a Lord Mayor’s Dragon Award! Heart of the City really helps you put some time in the diary to focus on your people. Sharing ideas and discussing CSR with industry peers offers great value. The community support is fantastic and it is great to see what works for other companies, big and small. I would highly recommend getting involved.
