Contributor Recommends: The Global Goals – No Point Going Halfway

For November’s Contributor Recommends, we spoke to Alkis Tsikardonis, Sustainability Strategy Manager at Santander UK. Alkis shapes the bank’s new approach to sustainability and has a broad background of CSR and Sustainability roles across industries from luxury retail to legal services and from consulting to education.

Alkis recommends the video ‘The Global Goals – No Point Going Halfway‘.

Hello HotC members and responsible business people.

You may have heard conversations about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (or SDGs) flying around – but how much do you really know about them, especially on why and how they came to life? SDGs are a ‘sustainability agenda for all’, from states, businesses to NGOs and ourselves. Seriously, you cannot imagine how much impact each one of us can have on our planet just by changing a few day-to-day activities.

This is one of my favourite videos to illustrate in an engaging (and slightly emotional, beware!) way the background and future of the SDGs. Few are aware that the SDGs  are actually not a new concept – they were launched to build on the legacy of the Millennium Development Goals, which were a guiding light to a better world for more than 15 years, prior to the SDG launch.

So, with such a legacy – why stop halfway?

In other news, please do not miss the publication of ‘The Honest Product’ by the Consumer Goods Forum and Futerra, a fabulous guide to product sustainability, ethics and health. These are at the top of my 2018 sustainability reads list!
