The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of the City of London served as Sheriff of the City of London in 2011-12 and has served as an elected Alderman for the Ward of Bridge & Bridge Without and a magistrate since 2007.
He joined stockbrokers Grieveson Grant in 1972, becoming a partner in 1981. After the firm was taken over by Kleinwort Benson, he was appointed Managing Director of Kleinwort Benson Securities in 1994 and joined the Kleinwort Benson Group Board in 1995.
He left in 2009, after 37 years with the group, latterly as Group Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the UK Bank. On Kleinwort Benson’s merger with RHJI, he was appointed Chairman of the Kleinwort Benson Holdings Board, later becoming Senior Advisor to the Group.
A senior City figure and former Chairman of Complinet, Lord Mayor Yarrow served on the Takeover Panel for six years and also on the FSA Practitioners Committee.
Lord Mayor Yarrow is currently Chairman of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and a Non-executive Director of Turquoise Global Holdings Limited and Fixnetix Limited. He is also a Trustee of the Police Foundation and an Almoner of Christ’s Hospital School.
Speaking after his election, Lord Mayor Yarrow said:
“I want to encourage City workers to ‘create wealth, give time and support people’ and my fund-raising over the next 12 months will help the essential work of two main charities, Scope and Mencap, as well as the Royal Ballet School, the City & Guilds of London Art School and the Royal Academy of Arts.
“My principal job as Lord Mayor is to represent and support the ‘City’ at home and abroad through an extensive programme of business visits, meetings and events. But my role will be not only to speak for the UK-based financial & business sector but also to it – and to encourage this key sector and all its workers to play their full part in wider society. The City thrives when it is part of society – and society thrives when commerce succeeds.”
Lord Mayor Yarrow is married to Gilly, a former teacher, and they have two sons.
We are delighted that The Lord Mayor will also be taking up the co-Presidency of the Heart of the City.
