Heart of the City plays an important role, helping firms large and small to develop their corporate social responsibility programmes. I encourage all businesses to become part of its network and take full advantage of its broad range of resources and support.– Mark Carney, Governor, Bank of England
Heart of the City is the UK’s largest responsible small business network, although we are open to businesses of all sizes. We give companies in London the tools to measurably improve our society and demonstrate responsibility. Acting as a membership hub, we make complex responsible business knowledge (often also known as Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR) easily accessible, allowing the busy professional to easily take informed action.
The members of our network include thousands of professionals from partners in law firms, to marketing managers in recruitment consultancies, HR Directors of IT businesses and founders of design agencies – all learning and collaborating to harness the power of their companies to make a difference. Take a look at our Members list.
To date our 800 business members have supported one another through our digital platforms and tailor made events. Over 600 of these businesses are small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), making us the UK’s largest responsible small business network. Learn more about the impact our members have made.
We act as an accelerator to help you take your responsible business strategy from concept to implementation and below are some examples of how we help our members:
We are a business-led charity, limited by guarantee. We report regularly to the Charity Commission and Companies House. We are housed by our main funder, the City of London Corporation. The formal relationship between Heart of the City and City of London Corporation is set out in our Service Level Agreement.
We are governed by a Board of Trustees, which is led by a Chairman and Deputy Chairman. The City of London Corporation acts as Treasurer. Our Trustees set and maintain our purpose, mission and values. They oversee the development of our strategy, act as ambassadors for our work and help ensure our high performance.
In addition to our Board, we have a Council of Members. These senior business leaders help us to attract new businesses to our programme and help set the tone for responsible business practice in London and across the UK. Find out more about our governance:
